The lowest zone of the mountain is the settlement zone where you can see different agricultural practices done by the locals while heading up. At the gate your guide will clear registration processes "approximately 1-2 hrs depend with the queue". This is the best time to straitch and to take photos around as we won’t use the same route on descending.

After all formality we provide lunch at the gate thereafter we start our 5hrs trekking in a rain forest zone which makes the first zone of the mountain. Weather is totally unpredicted hence expect some shower on our way.

We continue walking in a step-stairs up while admiring things the forest has to offer like monkeys, birds, beautifully flowers and many species of trees.

Upon arrival at the camp, the team will welcome you and find all sleeping arrangements are ready for overnight stay.

Hot water will be provided in a basin for sponging followed by starter before enjoying the dinner.

The nature walk is suitable for acclimatization and enhancing smooth digestion system. After walking, there will be team introduction where we come to know each other in the crew together with enjoying Kilimanjaro songs performed by the team.

We become used to the early, 07.00 breakfast as we aim to leave the camp at 08.30. Today’s trek is longer than yesterday though our overall gain in height is modest.

It is the day where many start to feel the mountain by getting several mountain sicknesses like headache due to altitude. “But” the best medicine is to walk slowly and drink much water.

We plan to arrive at Lava Tower in the afternoon to enjoy our picnic lunch and having sometime for acclimatization later we descend down to the Barranco Camp.

Once at camp, should take time to admire the views of the southern face of Kibo as well as the Heim Glacier. Dinner tonight is served at 19.00

Our breakfast starts at 0730hrs then proceed with our trek toward Karanga campsite as our destination. At the beginning, we encounter the hardest part as we have to scramble up the near-vertical face of the Barranco Wall (also commonly referred to as the ‘Breakfast Wall’ as you tackle it right after your breakfast!).

At the top of this climb, you will be rewarded with views of the Heim Glacier. The rest of today’s walk becomes a bit easier as we first descend to the gully below, and into the cold but beautiful Karanga Valley.

We then continue and finally climb up a steep series of zig-zags until reaching the Karanga Camp. “This is the day intended for acclimatization”

After breakfast, we leave Karanga and hit the junction which connect with the Mweka Trail then continue up to the Barafu campsite. At this point, you would have completed the South Circuit, which offers stunning views of the summit from various angles.
This is our base camp where final arrangements for summing night are made. Everything is early at this campsite as we arrive early for hot lunch; we enjoy our dinner early, having a Knapp early and wake up early going to the summit.

The two peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo are to be seen from this position.

Today is the most challenging day, but hopefully with the great sense of achievement of reaching your goal – the summit of Kilimanjaro! Our schedule for our ‘Summit Day’ is of course very different. Rising at 23.00, we take our tea and biscuits (23.30) before a midnight departure.

The day starts with the long, tough climb from Barafu camp where we take a steep and zigzag switch back up to Stella Point at 5756metres about 7hrs walk.

At Stella point we take our time for short rest and enjoying the sunrise if weather allow. From there it is another 45 minutes’ walk to the summit while taking a gradual walk.

Our goal is to reach the summit by around 0700-0730hrs then celebrate reaching the top, take our precious photos and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience.

After the summit, we return to Barafu, about 3hrs for breakfast rest and hot lunch then we keep on descending to Mweka Camp (3100 metres 4hrs walk) for our last dinner and overnight in the mountain. Mweka hut is situated in the rain forest which offer more fresh air for the body to recover from been staying in the less oxygen zone.

DAY 8: Mweka hut – Mweka gate

Walking distance: 3hrs excluding breaks
Elevation at the gate: 1650meters AML
Vegetation cover: Rain forest.

While keeping on celebrating your achievement, after breakfast we continue descending down to the Mweka Gate to receive summit certificate and check out from the park.

At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy but gaiters and trekking poles will help. It is also best to keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy. Lunch will be provided at the gate where is also recommended time to reward/tip your crew.
